Wintertime blues, stressful jobs, chaotic family activities–we’ve all got a lot going on at any time in our lives. So, why not spend a weekend making at least one room in your house a little more calming? Everyone needs a bit of an oasis after finally getting the spaghetti stains out of the shirt and vacuuming the whole house. We have a few easy tips to make your master bedroom a serene space.
Create a Zen Master Bedroom This Weekend
Clear it Out
The first step to getting a clear head is banishing the clutter. Move exercise equipment to a different room, put up the laundry, and sort through your clothes, blankets, and accessories and toss or donate anything you don’t need. You’ll immediately start to feel like the clouds are moving from your stormy brain.
Make Sure it’s Dark
You may be able to take a mid-day nap in a sunbeam with your cat, but at night your body needs darkness to keep a continue sleep cycle. If your bedroom has weak window blinds or no coverings at all, make sure you invest in blinds and drapes. Here are a few examples:
Cellular Shades
These shades are very popular for people looking to save money, as they are energy efficient, but they are also an excellent choice for bedrooms. Cellular shades often have a blackout liner, meaning they will keep the room dark as night until you roll them up.
Wide Blinds
Not a specific style, but choosing anything other than mini blinds is going to be a good choice. Mini blinds are thin and usually made of plastic, which means that the sun will shine right through them. Wider, faux-wood blinds made of vinyl are thicker and block the sun better.
